Welcome to Manchester Amnesty International's web site. Here you will find information and news on the various current and previous campaigns.

The Manchester Group is part of Amnesty International UK , which is itself part of the international human rights organisation Amnesty International. Amnesty International campaigns to promote an increased awareness of human rights, and undertakes action to stop grave abuses of human rights wherever they occur.

The Manchester Amnesty International Group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm at Cross Street Chapel, Cross Street, Manchester.

It is 60 years since the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Amnesty International is holding an open meeting to celebrated this anniversary on Saturday 29th November from 2 – 4 pm at The Friends’ Meeting House, 6 Mount St, Manchester M2 5NS. Speakers are:

  • Oliver Sprague: Programme director, Military, Security and Police, AIUK : “Control Arms: human rights under fire”

  • Professor Sigrun Skogly, Lancaster University Department of Law : “Poverty and human rights”
